Data Plastics – Supporting Innovation to help entrepreneurs get their ideas to market.
Data Plastics are becoming increasingly known as ‘the place to go to’ for entrepreneurs, with a growing reputation for helping inventors get their ideas off the ground to turn them into marketable products.
One highly successful company benefitting from such a meeting of minds is Sleeklight, a company now selling a range of lights internationally, all designed and manufactured in the UK.
Having previously had his idea turned down, Nick Bailey, creator and Managing Director of Sleeklight, turned to Data Plastics for help. Working alongside Data Plastics’ in-house team of Design Engineers throughout the whole process was a key contributor to Sleeklight’s product development success.
From the initial light pull concept, Data Plastics used 3D printing to produce a working model in which they fitted the electronics. The 3D model allowed complex electronics to be tested while in development, enabling Nick to perfect his design. Nick said he couldn’t have done it without the invaluable help and support of the specialist team who immediately ‘got his idea’, took him very seriously and made his concept a reality.
3D printing technology can make a significant difference at the early stage of product development and offers a cost-effective, low risk route to market for an entrepreneur. With the design refined, tooling was manufactured and the Sleeklight went into production.
The Sleeklight is exactly what it says it is: after sleepless nights with lights being left on by his young family, this timed, touch-activated light provides gentle ambient light which dims back to darkness over time. Sleek in design and available in a range of contemporary colours, it is manufactured exclusively with British components in the UK, flying the flag for British manufacturing, and a product the company is very proud of.
